Capercaillie

Capercaillie family

These wonderful capercaillie carvings have been created by renowned carver Sam Bowsher.

The majestic male capercaillie is proudly displaying, while the smaller female shields her chick under her wing.

The ancient pinewoods around Carrbridge are home to this rare woodland bird which feeds on pine needles and insects found on blaeberry. They are very vulnerable to disturbance so we can all help by not going looking for them and giving the birds space.

This carving was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the Cairngorms Capercaillie Project and the Carrbridge Capercaillie Conservation Strategy.
